At first glance, the answer would appear to be an emphatic “YES.”
To find stuff like this, you have to really dig into the byzantine flings submitted to the Federal Elections Commission by NCGOP headquarters.
Let’s start with an entry on December 13, 2016. Payment was issued by the NCGOP to “Concord Regional Airport” in Concord, North Carolina for the amount of $1903.28. The reason listed for the payment was “fuel for private aircraft.”
Really? Does the NCGOP own its own aircraft? (No, I don’t think so.) But I do seem to recall that Robin Hayes has one. Remember the whole story from the Republican National Convention where he kicked those guys off his plane? And the fuel is being purchased from the airport in Concord. Hayes lives in Concord. And it WOULD make sense for him to keep his “private aircraft” close to his home.
There’s more. We found another payment to “Concord Regional Airport” on January 31, 2017 for $2900.75. The reason? “Fuel for private aircraft.”
And there’s another one on February 14, 2017. On that date, NCGOP recorded a payment of $444.08 to “Concord Regional Airport” for “fuel for private aircraft.”
And let’s not forget a payment by NCGOP on March 7, 2017 to “Concord Regional Airport.” The amount was $1847.45 and the reason listed was “fuel for private aircraft.”
