Michael LaPaglia, North State Leadership Council Launch “Strengthen the Majority” to Fight Liberal Takeover of Legislature

On Thursday, Michael LaPaglia, the 2016 Republican nominee for North Carolina Secretary of State, announced the launch of “Strengthen the Majority,” a project of the North State Leadership Council designed to be a direct response to Roy Cooper’s radical liberal “Break the Majority” initiative.

“A majority of North Carolina voters cast their vote for someone other than Roy Cooper for Governor last year,” LaPaglia opened. “In fact, Roy was just accidentally elected by a minority of North Carolina voters. More people voted for someone else for NC Governor than voted for Roy Cooper.”

“Roy Cooper doesn’t seem to want to represent the majority of North Carolinians either. Far from it,” LaPaglia continued. “Roy Cooper has chosen to attack the majority of North Carolina voters. Roy Cooper isn’t serving North Carolina, Roy is serving himself and his pals in the liberal Democrat elite.”

In July, Cooper and North Carolina Democrat Party Chairman Wayne Goodwin announced they were launching “Break the Majority,” an effort to essentially engineer a hostile, liberal takeover of the General Assembly in order to end the Republican majorities that have controlled the legislature since 2010.

With “Break the Majority,” Democrats hope to be able to recruit liberal candidates to run for the North Carolina House and Senate, and raise enough money to fuel those campaigns to victory.

Over the past month, the North Carolina Republican Party and Republican leaders across the state have seemingly showed no interest in combating the Democrat effort.

The inaction from Republicans has resulted in Democrats taking a commanding fundraising lead, with Democrats quickly raising over $1 million for the “Break the Majority” campaign, securing a $1.8 million cash on hand advantage, and giving Democrats a 4-to-1 fundraising advantage.

With LaPaglia leading the way, the “Strengthen the Majority” initiative will serve as the primary vessel for Conservatives across the state to join together in the fight against a liberal takeover of state government.

Much like their liberal counterparts, “Strengthen the Majority” will be looking to recruit more Conservative candidates to run for state House and Senate seats, while also working to hold onto seats Republicans already control.

“We will ‘Strengthen the Majority’ both in terms of the number of conservative leaders, and more importantly, in the quality of the elected representatives we send to our city, county, state and Federal governments,” declared LaPaglia. “As a champion of conservative ideals, our ‘Strengthen the Majority Campaign’ will engage in primary elections, general elections and issue advocacy.”

“It is high time the silent majority in North Carolina had a way to fight back,” LaPaglia said.

In announcing the effort, LaPaglia pulled no punches when it came his views on Roy Cooper and the Democrats working to silence the majority of North Carolina voters who clearly prefer Conservative policies, a welcomed reprieve for Conservative voters who have grown tired of Republicans who rarely seem to fight back against liberals in Raleigh or Washington.

While Republicans lost high-profile races for Governor and Attorney General, voters did elect a Republican majority to the Council of State, re-elected Republican super majorities in both the NC House and Senate, and sent a majority of Republicans to represent the state in Washington.

“Roy Cooper’s recent media celebrated effort to ‘Break the Majority’ is a slap-in-the-face to North Carolina voters,” LaPaglia said. “It will no doubt include lies, trickery and fake news. It already extends to a network of leftist groups with a warped sense of reality.”

“Roy Cooper and the Democrats are a thuggish minority attacking conservatives with extremist money and vicious propaganda. They are attempting to intimidate North Carolina, attempting to stop us from following through on the common-sense ideals a majority of North Carolinians voted for,” LaPaglia said.

“The Democrats’ hysterical attempts to overthrow a duly elected majority are nothing but a temper tantrum — a childish stunt that is played out by Cooper and his gang pitching screaming fits and using millions of outside dollars to try to suppress, and drown out, the will of North Carolina. Why? So they can have their way, and make our state do what the liberal elite think is best for the rest of us.” LaPaglia declared.

According to LaPaglia, “Strengthen the Majority” will independently campaign for Conservative candidates, policies and leadership with the desired outcome being more principled and consistently Conservative government for North Carolina.

“We want to reduce taxes and regulations; grow economic opportunity for all North Carolinians; and, strengthen our communities,” LaPaglia said.

“We — the majority — will not back down. It’s time to stand up and fight!” he concluded.
