White House Budget Defunds Planned Parenthood, NC Pro-Life Leader named to ‘ProLife Voices for Trump’Advisory Board

WASHINGTON, D.C. – While it takes just a second to get over the top line number  — $4.89 TRILLION — the annual budget proposal from the Trump White House actually features quite a few spending cuts. One of cuts should make those that value life even more confident in President Donald Trump’s already unprecedented pro-life efforts: the White House budget defunds Planned Parenthood.

Ensures Federal Funds Protect Life and Conscience Rights. The Budget prioritizes the value of human life by ensuring that Federal funding does not support abortions. The Budget proposes to prohibit Federal funding, such as in the Title X Family Planning and Medicaid programs, for certain entities that provide abortion services and to protect conscience rights.

This includes blocking funding for abortions via the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). While it is only a proposed budget, and Speaker Nancy Pelosi still holds the gavel in congress, it does far more to remove taxpayer dollars from supporting abortions than previous budgets.

Planned Parenthood receives a third or more of its funding from federal taxpayers in one form or another, including grants, but mostly through federal and state health entitlement programs that pay for services at the abortion provider. It’s hundreds of millions in handouts every year, and that’s not even accounting for the indirect funding. Payments from federal health programs like Medicaid provide them with BILLIONS.

Contrary to the pro-abortionist quip that abortion is only a ‘small part’ of what Planned Parenthood does, the reality is that charging money for abortions provides nearly ALL of the organizations revenue.

Planned Parenthood exists to provide abortions, not cancer screenings. Every red cent taken from a taxpayer and funneled to Planned Parenthood, is contributing to their core operations as the nation’s leading abortion provider.

So it goes without saying that making sure taxpayer money is not use to finance abortions is a huge step in the right direction from arguably the most active pro-life president. President Trump became the only commander-in-chief earlier this year to attend the annual March for Life rally in person and showed his solidarity with the pro-life movement.

This budget proposal follows through on the rhetoric. Yet, he’s not doing it alone; pro-life leaders from around the country have joined an advisory board for ‘ProLife Voices for Trump’ to help design and enact policies that respect the sanctity of life. Of course, there is a North Carolina connection.

Nelson founded and runs Hand of Hope Pregnancy Resource Centers right here in North Carolina to make choosing life as easy as possible for women with an unexpected pregnancy. She founded the center in 2004 in Fuquay-Varina (Wake County) and over the last 15 years, according to the site, it’s been:

  • 1 baby born every two days;
  • 1 Life Skill class given every 34 minutes;
  • 1 community referral made every 13 minutes;
  • 1 intervention conversation every 6 minutes

“We seek to meet a physical need first through the following free services: physician-quality pregnancy testing, limited ultrasounds and NC Women’s Right to Know certification. Both locations are sites for Wake County Health & Human Services STI testing. Life Coach counseling, Life Skills classes and post-abortion support Bible studies are also offered free of charge. With the expectant parents’ permission, we provide accurate and essential education regarding the physical, emotional and spiritual consequences of abortion, while encouraging exploration of other options such as parenting and adoption.”

Nelson’s work on behalf of life, babies, mothers, and communities here in North Carolina is exactly the kind of blessed contribution we could use on a national stage as well. As President Trump lives up to his pro-life support with real action, we’re glad to see such a strong pro-life advocate from the Old North State as part of that effort.
