CHAPEL HILL – October on the campus of UNC Chapel Hill can be idyllic. That is, if the Carolina blue sky and fall leaves aren’t interrupted by a marauding band of social justice warriors hell-bent on defacing some assigned symbol of oppression. That’s why for this Halloween, a high-participation holiday on campus, the UNC chapter of conservative Young Americas Foundation put up an appropriately spooky ‘Socialism Kills’ graveyard display marking the 110 million (PLUS) victims of collectivism over the last century or so.
Well wouldn’t you know it: the social justice ninjas at UNC made the display disappear overnight.
As Emma mentions, this is historically a “free speech zone” if you will. So who removed the display? Leftist hooligans are obviously prime suspects, but there was no sign of the materials in nearby dumpsters. With the faculty’s political leanings being quite transparent over these last few years, staff could have also felt trigger by the truth about socialism’s perils.
So, regardless of who tore down the graveyard, where, exactly, is the free speech zone on a modern day college campus?
