WATCH: NC General Assembly Opens Long Session, Elect Chamber Leaders

RALEIGH – The North Carolina General Assembly convenes to open the 2021 long session at noon Wednesday. In contrast to last year’s opening session, COVID precautions will prevent families of state lawmakers from joining them as they kick off the session and elect leadership in the House and Senate.

Lawmakers won’t really start working on legislation in earnest until they return on January 27. Today is about officially voting in the Speaker of the House (expected to be Rep. Tim Moore), President Pro Tempore of the Senate (expected to be Sen. Phil Berger), and the remaining leadership posts in the respective chambers.

You can watch the Senate proceedings here.
