Was THIS the Best Speech of RNC Night One?

CHARLOTTE, NC - AUGUST 24: In this screenshot from the RNC’s livestream of the 2020 Republican National Convention, Maximo Alvarez, founder of Sunshine Gasoline, addresses the virtual convention on August 24, 2020. The convention is being held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic but will include speeches from various locations including Charlotte, North Carolina and Washington, DC. CHARLOTTE – Quite often, those Americans that sought out the Land of Liberty in fleeing from the horrors of communist revolution and murderous despots have a unique and deep affection and reverence for the American idea. They, having lived through the antithesis, understand the essence of its meaning more than many born and bred in the United States.

Maximo Alvarez is one of those Americans, and his speech at the RNC Monday was incredibly moving. The family of the now successful businessman escaped socialist takeovers in Spain, only to be faced with communist revolution in Cuba, where Alvarez was born, and from which he and his family escaped again. This time, to America.

Alvarez tugs at our hearts and minds when he describes the true blessings of liberty, knowing its alternative intimately. But now, as he watches the cultural movement currently afoot in the U.S., he is reminded of the evils his family escaped all those years ago.

He thought he’d outrun those shadows, he says, but is afraid they’ve been cast onto the last beacon of freedom on Earth. In a speech that will be replayed by Patriots again and again, Alvarez warns Americans to open their eyes to what is happening; and stop it in its tracks, before it’s too late.
