Wake County/NC GOP Hosting ‘Parent Assistance Day’ For Massive Teacher Walkout

RALEIGH – The Wake County Republican Party is teaming up with the N.C. GOP to assist parents impacted by the massive teacher walkout that is closing down school systems across the state next Wednesday, including Wake County schools.

“This will be a FREE event to provide parents with an alternative for the unexpected school closure. Parents with children ages 3-12 years old are welcome to join us at Coconut Charlie’s Bump and Bounce (adults must remain with kids).

“We don’t believe it’s wise for national teacher unions to organize a political protest and teacher walkouts during this critical exam time,” said Dallas Woodhouse, Executive Director of the NCGOP. “We wanted to do something small to help parents inconvenienced by this political move.”

The NCGOP and Wake GOP has reserved Coconut Charlie’s for the entire day (10AM – 5PM).

The event is open to all families regardless of political affiliation. There will be two sessions, 10AM – 1PM, and 2PM – 5PM. Food will be available for purchase from Coconut Charlie’s and Republican volunteers will also be staffing a study room to assist students with homework.”

The planned political rally, which has been swelling nearly every day since it’s announcement, has led to almost two dozen school districts to close on May 16. An estimated 15,000 people are expected to attend the event at the General Assembly as state lawmakers return to session to modify the two-year budget.

Republican leaders of the N.C. House and Senate have indicated those budget adjustments will include previously planned six percent increase to teacher pay. It will be the fifth teacher pay raise in as many years.

Parents can RSVP for the event here.
