UNC Charlotte Threatening to Lock Accounts of Students/Staff That Don’t Provide Proof of Flu Shot

CHARLOTTE – During the Pandemic Panic many keen observers rightly pointed out that the tortured logic used to justify a litany of draconian restrictions somehow doesn’t apply to other contagious and deadly respiratory viruses like influenza. The flu has been killing people for eons, yet we’ve never mandated masks, or closed schools, or shutdown businesses.

Well, the administrators at the University of North Carolina Charlotte (UNCC), are attempting to form some consistency here. No, not in some effort to to treat the coronavirus as reasonably as we do the flu, but just the opposite.

They mandated flu shots for students and staff, and now that the deadline is here, the university is threatening to lock the accounts of students and staff that do not provide proof of a having a flu shot. Seriously.

From the UNCC website:

“Influenza (flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses and can cause mild to severe illness. The best way to prevent the flu is by getting vaccinated each year. As we begin to enter flu season amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it is important for everyone to get their flu shot to help protect yourself, your families, and Niner Nation.

This year, UNC Charlotte is requiring all employees and students to attest that they have received a flu shot or qualify for an applicable exception by Monday, Nov 16.

On Wednesday, Oct. 14, all employees and students began receiving the attestation in their University email (subject line: Flu Vaccine Attestation).

We will send weekly reminders to non-responders until Nov. 16. As Chancellor Sharon L. Gaber announced in her Sept. 22 message, beginning Tuesday, Nov. 17, anyone who hasn’t completed the form will be locked out of their NinerNet account until they do.

Exemptions
There is no separate exemption form for the flu shot. You will complete the attestation form stating you did not receive the shot and indicating the accepted reason why.

Locating the flu vaccine attestation
Search “flu vaccine attestation” in your inbox as each link is unique to the person recieving it.

Proof of vaccination
You will be asked on the flu attestation to provide the date and location of your shot. We do not require additional documentation of your vaccination.

Shot scheduled for after Nov. 16
If your shot is scheduled for after the Nov. 16 deadline, please complete the attestation as required stating you are declining the vaccination by the Nov. 16 date. You may still get the shot at anytime — and are encouraged to do so. […]”

If yo’re wondering about the legality of such requirements, you’re not alone.

Alas, this is the environment the public has been pushed toward with Pandemic Panic, trading their liberty and sense of personal responsibility for some government mandates to ‘keep us safe.’

Benjamin Franklin famously opined that any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both. That precept rings as true in terms of the 2020 Pandemic Panic as it did at the founding of our nation.
