UNC Charlotte Students Demand Head of Campus Security Be Fired Because He Served Country at GITMO

CHARLOTTE – Not 24 hours removed from veterans day woke students at the University of North Carolina Charlotte (UNCC) were demanding the university fire their new head of campus security because the retired Army Colonel served at Guantanamo Bay while serving our country. Retired U.S. Army Colonel John Bogdan, who’s been head of security for less than a year after a distinguished 34 year in the military, makes these students feel “unsafe.”

On behalf of the UNC Charlotte community, this coalition calls for the immediate termination or resignation of John Bogdan from his employment within the UNC School System.

From the statement:

“It is evident that John Bogdan and, by extension of his hire, the University and the Board of Governors have a blatant disregard for Human Rights and People of Color on our Campus.”

The group also posted on Twitter that, “We do not feel safe with an accused human rights violator on our campus! We do not feel safe with the warden of Guantanamo on our campus! We are concerned, we are scared, we do not feel safe!”

They do not feel safe with a man that served our country for over three decades, literally helping to protect American citizens from murderous Islamic terrorists for these students entire lives, being the head of their campus security.

Consider the environment this demand is emerging in. This is from students at a campus that endured the tragedy of a shooting just earlier this year, in which a hero ROTC student Riley Howell gave his life saving others. Riley was buried with military honors for his heroism, while these students besmirch the honor of Bogdan’s military career.

A racist “human rights violator?” This is Bodgan’s response to the calls for his firing:

“I have many awards and decorations, among those that are most meaningful to me, are two Bronze Stars, Legion of Merit, and the Combat Action Badge,” he said. “However, the greatest honor the Army gives you is the opportunity to lead, to be a commander, entrusted with our most precious National treasure – America’s sons and daughters — and the opportunity to defend your fellow U.S. citizens.”

Considering that the UNCC campus has literally experienced a deadly shooting already this year, the “warden of GITMO” with two Bronze Stars and a sacred duty to protect “America’s sons and daughters” is exactly who I’d want to be in charge of campus security if my kids were students there.

Luckily the loudest activist voices are not representative of all the students on campus, many of which recognize how ridiculous it is. Responses to reporters by ‘Non-woke’ students asked by Bogdan included:

• “I honestly feel much safer knowing he’s working for us,” and,
• “What are they accusing him of? He seems to be knowledgeable about protecting large areas from terrorists, and that’s always a plus if you ask me!”

Hopefully that common sense perspective is more pervasive than that of smearing a decorated combat veteran for woke points in Leftist students social justice chatrooms.
