RALEIGH – We’ve seen this movie before; we know how it ends.
Governor Roy Cooper first came out to squash any idea of ‘getting back to normal’ by dropping gathering limits back down to 10 on the week of Thanksgiving; then, with media hyperventilating about ‘record cases’ of coronavirus in North Carolina and elsewhere, Cooper emerged to extend his mask mandate into your own home, under penalty of a Class 2 Misdemeanor; and then, he admonished the public that he could do more if they do not comply and bring numbers down.
That warning, we’ve come to know, is really foreshadowing the next scene. Now, after a weekend of more ‘record cases,’ that next scene maybe going into action this afternoon at Cooper’s surprise press conference.
News of the Tuesday press conference emerged Monday night, and the dread began in earnest. Having gone through the motions of warning, and tightening, Cooper will all but likely steal the show by announcing more lockdown restrictions.
Will it affect restaurants? Bars? Schools? Your office? Your personal household? We’ll have to wait and see. Tune in at 3:00 PM to find out just how intrusive, burdensome, and authoritarian will Cooper’s decree be.
