Trump nominates Bishop to be deputy director for budget at OMB

President-elect Donald Trump has nominated North Carolina’s Republican Congressman Dan Bishop, NC-08, as deputy director for budget at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).

“Dan has been a tireless fighter for our MAGA Movement in the House of Representatives on the Judiciary and Homeland Security Committees,” Trump said in a press release issued Tuesday night. “Dan will implement my cost-cutting and deregulatory agenda across all Agencies, and root out the Weaponized Deep State.”

Trump pointed out that, before serving in the United State Congress, Bishop served in the North Carolina House and Senate and as a county commissioner for Mecklenburg County. He also has a 30-year career as a business litigator in trial and appellate courts.

Bishop posted on X that he was honored to be nominated for the position.

Bishop lost a bid to be North Carolina’s attorney general to fellow congressman Jeff Jackson, a Democrat, in the General Election on Nov. 5.

Rep. Greg Murphy, NC-03, and others had pitched Bishop for US attorney general if Matt Gaetz, the former Florida congressman, wouldn’t be confirmed after Trump nominated him.

Gaetz withdrew his nomination and Trump then nominated former Florida attorney general Pam Bondi for the position.
