WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald Trump isn’t one to shy away from conflict. So when rumblings about the Southern Democrat that could cancel the 2020 RNC, Trump wasn’t likely to let it go untreated. So, he’s giving Cooper the Trump treatment, accusing Cooper of playing politics, and threatening to move the convention to another state.
Trump edges gently toward possibility that the GOP convention could be held elsewhere, to @SalenaZito: “We have a great state, North Carolina, that’s been very, very good. Although, it’s got a Democrat governor, so we have to be a little bit careful…” 1/2

2/2 “It’s got a Democrat governor, so we have to be a little bit careful with that, because they’re playing politics. They’re playing politics, as you know, by delaying the openings.”

Not just Cooper, but Democratic governors around the country seem to be dragging their feet on reopening. Ostensibly, the slow pace is caution against second waves, but, in the cynical world of politics, the fact there is an election November is not lost on anyone.
While Cooper may thoroughly enjoy the sweeping powers the emergency affords him, leaders in the Queen City (both Democrats and Republicans) are hoping the convention can go on as planned because of the very real economic boost such an event can provide.
Vendors, media, logistical support, general retail, hotels, free lancers, and 50,000 people. The positive economic impact from the biggest political convention of the season made all the more important within the context of the current mandated recession.
The president loves North Carolina, as he said, but won’t flinch in a stand off with Cooper, and Cooper doesn’t have the cajones to cancel or hiunder the RNC. Our speculation is that Trump knows this, and his comments here are merely a way to let Cooper know that he knows it.
