True Colors: Democrat State Lawmakers Oppose Bill Making It Illegal To Not Care for Babies That Survive Abortions

RALEIGH – Democrats in the N.C. General Assembly are calling it a political stunt, others may call it a political spotlight. After all, Senate Bill 359 is illuminating many Democrats’ refusal to hold those accountable who would willfully allow a baby to die if it survives an abortion.

Think about that for a moment.

If a mother (and doctor) has already made the immoral choice to end the life of a child in the womb, and that child survives the attempted abortion, these Democrats are angry that a doctor could be held accountable for neglecting to give that child medical care.

It’s rare, they say; the doctor should make the call, unencumbered by the law, they say; and allowing born babies to die should not be criminalized.

From WRAL:

“Sen. Joyce Krawiec, R-Forsyth, is sponsor of a bill that would make it a felony not to try to save the baby’s life. She blamed a culture that she says increasingly devalues human life.

“A right to an abortion should not translate to the right for a dead child no matter what happens,” Krawiec said. “He or she should be treated with the same degree of medical concern that any other child born whether wanted or not is treated.”

Sen Terry Van Duyn, D-Buncombe, was visibly angry.

“This is a political stunt, and that’s all it is,” Van Duyn said. “This is not what happens. Abortions in the last trimester are very rare, and you are talking about situations that the Supreme Court has been very clear on.”

That drew fire from Sen. Jerry Tillman, R-Randolph. “We’ve got dying babies laying there and somebody’s got to care for them,” he admonished Van Duyn. “That is a living, breathing child.”

“You call this bill a stunt, Senator van Duyn?” Tillman continued. “We just witnessed a big stunt right there, and it was you that was the stunt.” […]”

Sen. Floyd McKissick (D-Durham) proclaimed the ‘doctor is the sole person that needs to make that decision’ during debate of the bill on the senate floor.

Really? Abortion doctors should be the sole determiner of life and death? Somehow that doesn’t seem to jive with the sanctity of life concept that underpins (or is supposed to) Western Civilization.

The abortion-happy Democrats in the senate went on to proclaim that this was merely an attempt to create litigation to overturn Roe v. Wade (1973) or deny women a life-saving procedure. It should go without saying that Roe should absolutely be challenged as much as possible, for it has created a legal framework for abortion on demand that has prevented millions of babies from ever taking their first breath. Now, if a baby actually beats the odds to take that first breath despite an attempt to kill him or her, these Democrats cannot even bring themselves to mandate medical care to try to ensure it takes a second, and a third, and maybe even survive.

The rhetorical jujitsu the Left will play in order to protect the legality of ending life inside – or outside – of the womb is truly disturbing.

A political stunt can be defined as ‘when something is primarily done for mass attention, public support and influence, often pertaining to achieving and exercising positions of governance.’

If drawing attention to horrific fringe abortion practices to gain public support for changing the law to outlaw those fringe circumstances is wrong in the eyes of these elected Democratic lawmakers, the spotlight should be shone on them to the fullest extent possible.

The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act is currently making its way through the senate, with a companion bill in the house. Track it, monitor who votes against this common sense pro-life bill, and let them know come election time how out of step their value system has become.
