Tillis is Scared to Debate Primary Opponents, Wonder Why?

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Thom Tillis says he wants at least five debates with an eventual Democratic opponent in the general election. Primary debates? No, thanks. Tillis is refusing to debate his remaining Republican primary opponents, having been specifically challenged by conservative Larry Holmquist. Why? Probably because he’s well aware of the level of disappointment shared by grassroots conservatives in his tenure on Capitol Hill.

The reasons Tillis should agree to a primary debate are myriad, but we’ll let Tillis make the case himself. Here’s Tillis on the importance of debates:

“Given the importance of this race when it comes to the future of our state and nation, it is critical that North Carolinians have numerous opportunities to hear directly from the candidates about where they stand on the issues that matter to them. I’m proud of my record in the Senate of fighting to create jobs, combat sanctuary cities, confirm conservative judges, and support military families. I look forward to discussing these accomplishments early and often during the general election, and I hope whoever my Democratic opponent is will join me in participating in this robust debate schedule.”

Well, given the importance of this race, and since Tillis is proud of his record, shouldn’t he be more than willing to participate in a debate during the primary election? That would make sense, but the problem is that defending his record of holding hands with Democrats and speaking down to conservatives isn’t quite as easy as riding a Trump wave during the general.

Voters do deserve to hear from the candidates, and see those candidates tested through debates. Especially, when it comes to Tillis, Republican primary voters. Although the big money challenger dropped out, Tillis still has competition that takes conservative principles seriously.

Take Larry Holmquist, for example. He challenged Tillis to a debate and heard nothing but crickets, while Tillis feigns interest in making the choices clear for voters. Well, since Tillis won’t debate him, we’ll just let Holmquist tell all you primary voters why he is running.

“I am running for the U.S. Senate for one reason–like many of you, I am disgusted by Thom Tillis’ “flip-flopping” and inconsistency on issues that are critical to conservatives, and his failure to vigorously defend President Trump!

When the phony, baseless witch-hunt known as the Robert Mueller investigation was taking place, did Thom Tillis stand up and denounce it for being based on a total lie—the Steele “dossier,” bought and paid for by the Clinton campaign?

No, instead Tillis toyed with the idea of teaming up with radical-leftist-democrat Senator Cory Booker to introduce a bill that would have protected Mueller by prohibiting President Trump from firing him. (Trump, as head of the Executive Branch, would have been perfectly within his rights to fire Mueller, just as he fired the disgraced ex-FBI Chief, James Comey.)

Tillis then poured a little salt on the wound by telling North Carolina conservatives to “Spare me your righteous indignation.”

What kind of “conservative” would team up with CORY BOOKER to do this, and then insult the very people who elected him to fight back against Booker and the traitorous democrat-socialist party?

And as if that’s not enough, when President Trump declared a National Emergency early in 2019 to secure funding to build the wall on our southern border, Tillis initially opposed the President. After getting an earful from plenty of North Carolina conservatives (including me), Tillis “flip-flopped” and supported the President and the wall.

Again, what kind of a “conservative” would oppose President Trump and his plan to build the wall and defend our nation from further invasion?

There have been other flip-flops and inconsistencies, but I think these two examples alone disqualify Tillis as any kind of a reliable, trustworthy conservative. North Carolina conservatives simply deserve better!

I will be the strong, consistent conservative Thom Tillis is not. When I’m representing the people of North Carolina in the U.S. Senate, you’ll always know in advance how I’ll vote on every issue—in the most conservative manner possible. And, I will vigorously defend President Trump as he fights for us!

As your next Senator, I can promise you right now—I have no interest in what the mainstream media thinks or says, I will always have your best interest and the best interest of our country as my top priority, and I will fight–with courage—every day for you, your family, our state, and our nation!

This is a fight we must win, and together, we will. I welcome your prayers, I ask for your support, and I thank you for your vote in the Republican Primary for U.S. Senate in North Carolina!”

After reading that it may be easier to understand just why Tillis doesn’t want to debate primary opponents. He doesn’t want to raise their profile by agreeing to debate, but is likely also too scared to walk in to a buzz saw operated by a real conservative.

We’d love for North Carolina primary voters to see a Tillis answer for his many negatives, but since that doesn’t seem to be in the cards, we’ll encourage you to check out Larry Holmquist, and additional challengers Sharon Hudson and Paul Wright instead.
