ASHEVILLE – U.S. Senator Thom Tillis has been safely reelected, so he has resumed the regularly scheduled programming. On this episode, Tillis speaks with the familiar business chamber group, in which he blames the unvaccinated for driving the recent surge in COVID cases, pays lip-service to better border security, and then pretends that illegal aliens coming to North Carolina don’t have COVID-19 at higher rates than the general population.
From Asheville Citizen-Times:
“Sen. Thom Tillis told a conservative local business group that anti-pandemic measures should focus on getting North Carolinians vaccinated, not on migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border.
“If you look at a state like North Carolina, even absent the possible threat of spreading through illegal crossings, we’ve got a real problem here with people not getting the vaccine,” Tills said Aug. 26 to the Council of Independent Business Owners.
The recently reelected Republican’s statement in the Zoom meeting with CIBO flies in the face of right-wing claims that the surge of Central American migrants is driving the country’s current COVID-19 spike.
Tillis answered questions from CIBO Past President John Carroll about COVID-19 and immigration and well as pandemic aid, infrastructure, Afghanistan and the Jan. 6 riot — clashing with Carroll over his characterization of the participants in the incursion into the legislative chambers. […]
Tillis told CIBO members he was alarmed about the record number of immigrants and the asylum process that he said was likely allowing people from a “criminal element” to slip into the state. But he pushed back when Carrol asked whether immigrants were exacerbating the state’s pandemic situation.
Tills said he did believe unvaccinated and untested immigrants represented “a threat.”
“So I would say that they may be a factor, but I think the biggest factor right now is we have far too many people who are refusing to get the vaccine.” […]”
Classic Tillis; joining the Left in being more worried about the non-compliant American citizens, than the illegal and untested aliens pouring over our border and into our state. Both represent “a threat” according to Tillis, equating Americans exercising their liberty with completely unaccounted, possibly criminal and diseased illegal immigrants.
