The Wokest: Asheville City Council Passes Reparations Resolution

ASHEVILLE – The patently racist anti-racist movement, that which fuels the Marxist Black Lives Matter Movement, is rearing its ugly head in North Carolina. Of course, as the deep blue pockets of the Old North State try to out-woke each other, they’re bound to edge ever deeper into the collectivist cult.

Asheville just took the lead, edging out Durham and a few others, as the ‘Wokest’ when the city council passed a resolution in support of reparations to ‘Black Asehville.’

“Tuesday night, Asheville City Council unanimously passed a resolution supporting reparations for its African American residents.

Councilman Keith Young made opening remarks about the proposed resolution saying in part, “Anything we do, in my mind, has to out live the emotions of this present moment.” Young went on to say, “Anything less than systemic change is just feel good politics in the moment.” 

Each city council member took turns making opening remarks on how they support the resolution. Following their opening statements, the council took turns reading a portion of the resolution. […]”

So what is in the resolution?

First, it apologizes on behalf of Asheville for it’s participation in slavery and segregation. Simple enough, though we kind of doubt anyone in Asheville has owned slaves. Still, it’s relatively harmless to apologize for such things, even if it collectivizes guilt and assigns it to individuals that have no guilt whatsoever in any such institution.

It also apologizes for urban renewal projects that displaced black communities, and calls on others who’ve benefited from White Supremacy and Privilege to renounce systemic racism and the inequity it creates.

The standard fare you’d expect from the social justice crowd in Asheville. But then it gets a little more loony:

(5) calls on the State of North Carolina and the federal government to initiate policy-making and provide funding for reparations at the state and national levels;

(6) directs the City Manager to establish a process within the next year to develop short, medium and long term recommendations to specifically address the creation of generational wealth and to boost economic mobility and opportunity in the black community;

(7) fully supports its equity department, staff and its work, and encourages the city manager to utilize their talents when forming policy and programs that will establish the creation of generational wealth and address reparations due in the black community as mentioned above;

(8) seeks to establish within the next year, a new commission empowered to make short, medium and long term recommendations that will make significant progress toward repairing the damage caused by public and private systemic Racism. Other local government community organizations may also be invited to have representation on the Commission.The task of the Community Reparations Commission is to issue a report in a timely manner for consideration by the City and other participating community groups for incorporation into their respective short and long term priorities and plans. Accountability for achieving equity will be enforced in the appropriate offices. The report and the resulting budgetary and programmatic priorities may include but not be limited to increasing minority home ownership and access to other affordable housing, increasing minority business ownership and career opportunities, strategies to grow equity and generational wealth, closing the gaps in health care, education, employment and pay, neighborhood safety and fairness within criminal justice […]”

The council voted unanimously (7-0) in support of this resolution establishing a Community Reparations Commission, whose recommendations to achieve equity ‘will be enforced in the appropriate offices.’

One may think that more independence (less dependency), more liberty, more eocnomic opportunity, and ironclad property rights  is the best AND most moral way to allow individuals and families to build generational wealth, but they’d be guilty of thinking to linearly (a sign of Whiteness). Such individualism is the number one enemy of such communist cultural movements, which is all this anti-racist current is.

Anti-racism equates to anti-American, anti-Western Civilization, anti-Individualism, anti-capitalism.

Asheville, nestled beautifully beneath the Blue Ridge mountains, has gone headlong over the cliff.

Don’t worry; they won’t be lonely. Certain cohorts are elbowing their way to the front of the Mob for their own chance to jump off the cliff, so Asheville may be unseated as ‘The Wokest’ city in North Carolina in short order.
