The Most 2020 Reason for Sen. Richard Burr to Retire

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This year has been…interesting, so far. As the Wuhan virus spread around the world, and forcing us all to stay home, many of us watched the Tiger King docuseries on Netflix with weird awe.  It seemed all too fitting for 2020 in America; a gay polygamous country singer with hundreds of Tigers, and his archenemy, the universally reviled Carole Baskin, the eccentric leader of a ‘rescue’ organization that may or may not have fed her late husband to tigers.

Senator Richard Burr has had an interesting year as well. Entering the back end of what will be his last term in the U.S. Senate, the senior senator from North Carolina started 2020 as a well-liked establishment figure with positions of influence. It didn’t take long for demands for his retirement and fraud investigations stemming from his unloading of stocks at the highs when he knew coronavirus was coming, yet still downplaying the threat publicly. From respected elder, to dirt bag that deserves jail time, in the blink of an eye.

One thing that could sully the reputation of Richard Burr even more? It just happened, and it’s so 2020.

And it’s only April. What’s in store for us over the bulk of the year is anyone’s guess.
