The Inanity of the Environmental Left

RALEIGH – A handful of protesters gathered outside the entrance to the Duke Progress Energy building in downtown Raleigh on Tuesday, chanting predictable phrases in (sort of) unison.

‘Hey, Hey! Ho, Ho! Fossil Fuels Have Got To Go!’ and ‘No Pipeline!’ were repeated incessantly.

It is always easy to pick on the anti-fossil fuels Environmental-Whackos for their utter hypocrisy. How many rubber-soled shoes do you count in that picture? Petroleum products.

How did the protesters transport themselves to this building front downtown? Fossil-fueled automobiles, likely. Alternatively, if they all crammed into their Prius or Chevy Volt to charge against Corporate Energy and stick it to the Man, then it is even more rich, for they would have zapped their electric car up to full power with electricity coming from the very same company they are protesting. And that electricity was most likely generated with fossil fuels.

The blatant contradictions between their messaging and their every day existence doesn;t seem to bother them in the slightest, though. They are down for the cause…whichever cause the political Left assigns them to.

Another chant they kept repeating was, ‘This is what Democracy looks like!’

That may sound familiar because it’s the tired slogan always screamed in concert by the activist Left of North Carolina as part of the old Moral Monday Movement, rebranded as the Poor People’s Campaign. Different names, same disgruntled Leftists with a lot of free time on their hands.

Admittedly, a handful of Leftists raging against fossil fuels in their cargo shorts isn’t necessarily newsworthy. However, it is good for a chuckle, and made especially funny by the backdrop of a modern, fossil fuel chugging muscle car…and an entire society whose wealth, prosperity, and quality of life comes from the innovative exploitation of the very thing they are protesting.
