RALEIGH – The Left certainly did not wasted any time in attacking conservative Republican nominee for North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District Dan Bishop. Bishop, too, hit the ground running after his primary win Tuesday, taking the fight directly to Democratic opponent Dan McCready’s doorstep, and releasing a TV ad explaining why he is the ‘Right Dan,’ versus ‘Wrong Dan’ McCready.
Bishop’s add is decidedly more substantive and positive than the Democrat attack on him, drawing a clear contrast between the Republican and Democratic candidates.
To make that contrast as stark as possible, Bishop took his campaign directly to the McCready campaign headquarters to hold a press conference Wednesday.
From Charlotte Observer:
“A day after winning his 9th District primary, Republican Dan Bishop took his campaign to Democrat Dan McCready’s doorstep Wednesday, taunting him with a cardboard cutout outside his south Charlotte headquarters.
It was an afternoon that saw both candidates square off in the same location in what’s expected to be the year’s highest profile special election.
Bishop hammered McCready for being vague on issues. The cutout, he told reporters, “will have as much to say as Dan McCready will today.” […]
Bishop also challenged McCready to answer questions, including whether he would support next year’s Democratic presidential nominee if it were “a socialist” such as Sanders or U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren.
“Sounds like he’s afraid to run against a capitalist who’s built a business from scratch and a United States Marine,” McCready told reporters. McCready, a former Marine, started a solar energy investment business.
McCready didn’t say whether he would support either Sanders or Warren. […]”
Of course, he didn’t. McCready, as with most Democrats who claim to be moderate, can’t afford to associate with the Leftist loons that have taken leadership of their party. One can be sure, however, that if a Democrat such as McCready makes it to Congress, they’d be nothing more than a reliable vote for Nancy Pelosi, and an excuse-maker for the likes of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortes (S-NY).
Beyond proving Bishop’s point, McCready predictably resorted to the short-list of Democratic campaign strategies and attacked Bishop as being anti-LGBT due to his authorship of House Bill 2. This line of attack will comprise a near entirety of McCready’s campaign, because he has little else to hang his campaign hopes on other than demonizing legal recognition of God-given biology and smearing Bishop as some sort of bigot.
Just a couple days into this general election and Bishop is already proving he has the fighting spirit necessary to give a well-funded, but predictable Democrat a run for his money. Conservatives in the 9th District should be encouraged.
