Shutdown Showdown

WASHINGTON, D.C. – As the federal government shutdown enters its third day, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has scheduled a Noon time vote to reopen the Swamp.

All indications are that the gap has not closed between ‘Endless C.R.’ Republicans and “Hostage Taking’ Democrats:

“Senate moderates working on a compromise are hoping McConnell will delay the vote, but the majority leader showed no signs of budging Monday morning. A group of Democrats huddled with McConnell on the Senate floor after his remarks and before each party held private meetings that will determine the outcome of Monday’s vote.

Democrats, feeling burned about the House neglecting the Senate’s immigration bill in 2013, want a more ironclad commitment from GOP leaders to take up a legislative fix to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which has given legal protections to hundreds of thousands of young immigrants.”

If you believe a compromise should be hammered out on the issue of DACA, why would Democrats expect the American people to be accepting of the hostage taking actions they have executed here? Further, why should they expect a fair negotiation on the issue when they have historically pulled out all stops to use procedure and power against the interests of Americans, when it comes to immigration?

The DACA issue is not tied to the budget issue – it’s a completely arbitrary association created by Democrats. And it might just backfire on them.

The 2013 shutdown, led by Sen. Ted Cruz and the House Freedom Caucus for the purposes of forcing votes to defund Obamacare, lasted 16 days. Today’s vote on the third day of the 2018 shutdown could make a huge difference in total duration. Three days could turn into 30.

As usual, President Donald Trump is talking plain. common sense directly to the American people and calling for an end to this Democrat obstruction.

That is a great question! Democrats never shy away from using every tool available to force their policies through; why should Republicans? Remember how Obamacare was passed using reconciliation tactics that only required 51 votes in the Senate?

Instead of demonstrating his honest desire to end this shutdown and put Democrats in their place (the minority), McConnell demurred when asked about the nuclear option, saying he doesn’t want to change senate rules. If this is as easy as changing senate rules, then the Swamp Leaders are partially to blame here as well.

But that wasn’t Trump’s only good point. The fact that our federal government has been functioning on a steady diet of Continuing Resolutions, and for eight years never passing an actual budget, is crazy.

Knowing that spending all taxpayers’ money and more is the Swamp’s favorite pastime, one must recognize that the C.R.’s are the ideal vehicle for them to keep doing so.

They know the entire time that a deadline is looming on the calendar, but they wait until there is a gun to everyone’s head to make any moves on budgeting, thereby forcing a short term ‘fix’ that bakes in ever higher levels of spending.

We’ll know later today if the end is near, or if the shutdown will continue, but two things are for sure: Democrats should never be thrown a bone that they’d never toss Republicans if the tables were turned, and the entire Establishment should be called upon to pass a REAL budget so spending priorities like the military can be set and spending cuts (real cuts) can be made to keep the American fiscal house in order.

And they wonder why Trump support remains?!
