SENATOR RICHARD BURR TO SKIP TRUMP SOTU?

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Breaking on CNN Tuesday evening, just hours before President Trump’s first State of the Union address to congress, is news that North Carolina Senator and Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Richard Burr will not attend the speech.

Burr has been critical of President Trump in the past, and most recently downplayed worries from his own party about possible misbehavior of FBI officials as it relates to the Trump/Russia collusion investigation.

Burr gave the FBI the benefit of the doubt, even as a memo circulated in the U.S. House that allegedly documents abuse by the FBI in the handling of the Russia investigation.

As chair of the select committee on intelligence, and long a hawk when it comes to national security and intelligence issues, Burr is perhaps too deferential of the the Deep State when it comes to questions of impropriety.

Beyond the CNN banner, there were no other reports to confirm Burr’s plans to skip the State of the Union address. If Burr does elect to avoid attending the speech it will mark a new low that demonstrates his loyalty to the Establishment Swamp over the sitting president of the United States.
