SANCTUARY: Mecklenburg Sheriff to Free Illegal Child Rapist, Drug Trafficker

MECKLENBURG COUNTY – Yet again the sanctuary policies of one of North Carolina’s handful of Sanctuary Sheriffs stand to needlessly endanger public safety as they flout cooperation with federal immigration authorities. Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden, who literally cut a cake representing the program for cooperating with ICE, who has already presided over the release of criminal illegal aliens, will preside over the release of two child rapists and a heroin trafficker, all illegal aliens.

So let’s see what kind of ‘Dreamer’ McFadden was so excited to give favor in his community as evidenced by the picture above.

“[…] Alejandro Gomez-Cervantes who was arrested on May 11 and charged with five counts of indecent liberties with a child, three counts of statutory sex offense with a child, and statutory rape of a child. ICE placed a detainer on Gomez-Cervantes, and his next court date is October 28. […]

Rigoberto Murcia-Martinez who was arrested on April 16 and charged with three counts of indecent liberties with a child, two counts of statutory sex offense with a child, and statutory rape of a child. ICE placed a detainer on Murcia-Martinez and, at the time of his arrest, he had already been ordered deported. […]

Jasmine Villareal has been in Mecklenburg County custody since March 21 when she was arrested and charged with three counts of trafficking opium or heroin and possession of a stolen firearm. Her next court date is November 5.

“The only persons protected by these misguided policies are criminals as the only way a person is subject to a detainer is if they’ve been arrested for a crime beyond anything to do with their immigration status,” Acting ICE Director Matt Albence said in a statement. […]”

The few North Carolina sheriffs that have embraced a resistance to ICE cooperation and immigration enforcement broadly, argue their motivation is to make illegal immigrant communities feel more comfortable calling on law enforcement when needed. Threats of deportation, the Sanctuary Sheriffs say, suppress reports of crime.

But these are not minor crimes, and releasing accused child rapists right back into an illegal community of immigrants makes no one more ‘comfortable.’ It blatantly, and in a way that is completely unnecessary, threatens public safety. Such a willful violation of the spirit of law enforcement and public welfare by the top law enforcement leader in a county is a detriment to that county’s residents, even those such misguided policies profess to serve.

None of that seems to matter for the Sheriffs in Mecklneburg, Wake, Durham, Orange counties and others.
