RALEIGH – Presented without comment.
Just kidding – how could we not comment?
Roy Cooper, now officially under investigation by the State Board of Elections and Ethics Enforcement concerning his role in securing a $57.8 million slush, to be controlled by him, as part of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline deal, is conspicuously silent when facing questions on the issue.
Specifically, Cooper is asked if he thinks it is appropriate for him to oversee an ethics board that is now investigating him.
Of course it isn’t.
But when the General Assembly passed reform legislation last year that combined the ethics commission with the state board of elections, making it a truly bipartisan board and taking control away from the governor, Cooper sued them and won as the Democrat justices seated on the N.C. Supreme Court overturned lower courts’ decisions.
If Cooper is now under investigation for a ‘pay-to-play’ scheme, how can it be that Cooper himself oversees the commission?
