President Trump in NC Monday

MORRISVILLE – President Donald Trump is visiting North Carolina Monday to tour a company facility in the Research Triangle Park that is working on a COVID-19 treatment. As the race to create SARS_CoV2 vaccines and treatments for COVID-19, companies in North Carolina are innovating to pull the finish line closer. We’re also a critical swing state in the 2020 election, making the visit  one of many in President Trump’s campaign for reelection.

Novavax is the company working on creating key components of a successful coronavirus vaccine, and the president will tour the FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies’ Innovation Center where those components are being developed.

In a statement the White House said, “FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies develops processes that are designed to rapidly lead to efficient, robust and high quality bio manufacturing. FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies is manufacturing bulk drug substance for NVX-CoV2373, Novavax’ COVID-19 vaccine candidate, which is currently in a Phase 1 clinical trial, and is expected to progress into Phase 2 in mid-August and Phase 3 in the fall.

Novavax was awarded $1.6 billion under the White House initiative called Operation Warp Speed to rapidly develop a vaccine for the novel coronavirus. The company employs around 500 people in North Carolina and thousands more worldwide.

The visit to our 2020 swing state comes as the election is less than 100 days away, and so of course the Democrats are finding ways to spin everything against Trump. The N.C. Democratic Party released a statement whining that the president is visiting during a pandemic.

Hopefully Trump will give the Leftists of the Old North State plenty more to whine about in the coming weeks.
