‘Please Come’: NC Funeral Home Invites Public To Service of Veteran With No Family

SALISBURY – If you are in the area of Rowan County this Thursday afternoon and want to honor the life of a veteran with no loved ones to mourn her, then you might see fit to attend the service of Leslie Denise Barnes of Mooresville, a 26 year veteran of the United States Air Force, and give thanks for her service and the great country for which the patriot served.

Barnes will be escorted by the Patriot Guard to the National Cemetery in Salisbury, and laid to rest at 1:00 PM Thursday.

From WCNC:

“It is sad enough when someone dies, but to have no family or anyone to step forward to be there to grieve for her or to pay respects to her, we just felt that something needed to be done,” Henderson said.

In fact, a picture of the 60-year-old has yet to be found.

“Please come if you are able,” the funeral home said. […]

“Memorials may be given to any veteran-related charity of the donor’s choice,” the funeral home said. Condolences may be placed on the funeral home’s website. […]”

May she rest in peace.
