WAKE FOREST – Big Brother had his telescreens, the Chinese have their social credit system, and Heritage High School in Wake Forest has their ‘Diversity Inventory’ for 10th graders.
On their second day, students in Ms. Wilson’s 10th grade English class were handed a worksheet that probed them on everything from who their friends and doctors are, what each’s sexuality is and their socioeconomic status. It’s a checklist to help this teacher literally map out how to force more social justice ‘diversity’ into these kids lives, and it’s a far cry from teaching students about English literature, plots, and themes.
Parents are understandably upset not only at Wilson’s apparent subplot to force her extracurricular agenda on her students, but also what she said whens he passed the worksheet out.
“[…] The worksheet, titled ‘Diversity Inventory,’ asked students to share their race, sexuality, socioeconomic status, and religious beliefs. Bartus shared a photo of the assignment on Facebook.
“When some kids were kind of hesitant to do it she said, ‘Hey, it’s OK because I used to be a Catholic and now I’m an atheist and I’m bi-sexual.’ So, needless to say, my son was a little shocked that this was happening in what’s supposed to be an English class,” Bartus said.
Bartus demanded her son be removed from the class. She says she emailed the principal twice before she heard anything back.
“It’s hard enough going to high school without having your teacher call you out and lump you into a category — and not a category like ‘do you like football or baseball?’ A category of, ‘who do you want to have sex with?’ That’s unacceptable,” said Bartus.[…]”
To the credit of the school administration, once the parents’ concerns were brought to the principle he reviewed and yanked the worksheet lesson without delay. However, while this was nipped in the bud, imagine all the subtle, and outright blatant, ways teachers are proselytizing for progressivism instead of educating.
And the example is set at the top. The NCAE and other activists of the Far Left purport to represent teachers across North Carolina while they team up with Democrats like Roy Cooper to agitate for implementation of the Left’s Big Government agenda, whether it deals with education or not. Is it surprising that some teachers would see that as a green light to enforce the Left’s dogma in the classroom?
