‘Our School, Our Say’: Far Left NC Teachers Union Representing Less Than 1/3 of NC Teachers Holding Students Hostage to Pandemic Panic Politics

RALEIGH – The North Carolina Association of Educators is a wannabe union that, in addition to public (and only public) education, openly advocates for a litany of Far Left agenda items like more government healthcare and socialism/statism generally. The great majority of North Carolina teachers are actually not members of the NCAE, but that doesn’t stop the organization’s leaders from talking on behalf of all teachers as they spout the latest woke grievance.

Now they are busy perpetuating the Pandemic Panic and proclaiming that the Far Left public school teacher wannabe unionists are the ones who decided if and how North Carolina students return to in-person schooling.

Bob Luebke of the Civitas Institute picked up on an email NCAE sent to members expressing this hostage-taking mentality.

“[…] Last night NCAE sent out an interesting email. The wording was significant:

“By acting together, we have the power to determine the conditions in which we will return to in-person instruction. As frontline workers and families who know how best to meet our children’s educational needs, we have the responsibility to ensure we do so safely.”

The email was a shot across the bow and clearly aimed at the governor. Add NCAE to the millions of North Carolinians who are clearly tired of waiting for Governor Cooper to announce when and how public schools will re-open in North Carolina

Last week Cooper  delayed a planned announcement saying:

..“ we believed we needed a little more time to make sure we get this plan right because education, I think, is the most important function of state government.”

Cooper continued:

“I think it’s important for us to get buy-in, as much buy-in as we possibly can across the board before we announce a decision. There’s going to have to be a lot of local decisions made because school districts are different.”

Buy-in is something Cooper clearly hasn’t been getting.

Parents are split on the back to school plans with many believing the plans are unworkable.

Teacher frustration is also mounting.   Up to now NCAE and other education groups have kept the cracks in that support hidden from the public. No more.

Why else would NCAE be sending out emails saying:

“Who decides when schools reopen? We do”

Welcome to the mess. […]”

Mobs are not only tearing down statues, silencing dissent, and rioting with near impunity these days; the Mob also runs North Carolina’s public schools lobby and wants to flex its muscle in controlling the schools in general.

Many teachers are understandably scared, which makes sense being that mainstream media and teacher advocates are busy spreading maximum fear about the risks posed by the coronavirus. In reality, there is no science to support that returning to in-person instruction in public schools carries with it any significant risks for students or teachers.

So what the NCAE is doing is merely about control. Even Governor Roy Cooper, a reliable shill for the NCAE and vice versa, is eligible to be targeted by the Mob if it seems he’s not fueling the politics of Pandemic Panic quite enough.
