WASHINGTON, D.C. – Now that the primary is out of the way, the game has fundamentally changed. Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC), thought to be the among the most vulnerable seeking reelection this fall, easily won the March primary after some initial scares. Now he goes on the attack against the Democratic candidate Cal Cunningham, a war veteran and former state lawmaker.
While Democratic primary voters likely thought Cunningham has the traits and attributes to beat Tillis in the fall — honorable military career, clean Democratic record, crossover appeal, and square jaw — he is still professes support for the current radical trajectory of the Democratic Party base, and will all but surely vote in lock step with that agenda while if elected. He says as much, and the Tillis campaign is calling him out on it in a new ad.
Whether you voted for Tillis in the primary or not, at this point the contrast is one between another senate vote for national Democrats socialist inclinations, or retaining a senate vote that (most of the time) aligns with a more appropriate understanding of our rights and embracing the policies that promote and protect them. It should be an easy decision, for all those supporting four more years of a Trump administration, to reinforce that vote with stronger majorities in congress.
