Not Satisfied with Governor’s Protracted Plan, REOPEN NC to Continue Protests Tuesday

RALEIGH – It was an opportunity missed; that’s for sure. After a couple weeks of bubbling resistance to sweeping and economically ruinous Stay-at-Home orders issued by Governor Roy Cooper, including protests and official moves to reopen some states, the governor unveiled a three-phase plan to…keep North Carolina shutdown for another month or longer.

The headline date may indeed be May 8, but the overbearing restrictions actually drag on until arbitrary metrics are hit on a statewide basis. Even then, the following phases can be weeks or months longer.

Put simply, the citizens of North Carolina will be free again when Roy Cooper is satisfied. Being that livelihoods (and lives) are being lost because of these orders, and that pesky American tradition of telling authoritarians to buzz off, the growing ranks of Reopen NC (70,000+ members) are not satisfied in the least.

Far from it; they grassroots group will hold another REOPEN NC rally in Raleigh on Tuesday to register their continued complaint against this destructive and disrespectful government overreach.

This will be third such protest, and presumably the largest yet, as the second (last week) was probably ten times the size of the first. Beyond the show of opposition, though, is a very real resistance to the shutdown order growing among small-business owners across the state. Littering the comments on REOPEN NC and local county chapters, are shop-owners and service providers that are simply not going to wait any longer. They are opening their doors for business, taking reasonable precautions, and taking the real stand of simply not complying.

Unfortunately, it will probably only be after a critical mass of citizens and businesses begin to ignore the order — massive noncompliance — that Cooper will move to ease the edicts. Until then, he, like other government leaders, will continue to err on the side of authoritarian controls until his public health team gives the all clear. That means it’s up to ‘We the People’ to demonstrate what unalienable means.

If you want to let Governor Cooper know the supporters of reopening our state aren’t just some ‘idiots in a small fringe group,’ then join the a stand for liberty and livelihoods Tuesday at the state government complex at 11:00 AM.
