NC’s Far Left Wannabe Teachers Union STILL Opposes Reopening, After Bill Passes Legislature UNANIMOUSLY

RALEIGH – The pressure swelled as the huge costs of closures and minimal risk reality of reopening schools; it reached a critical mass this last week. Previously opposed Democrats, lead by Governor Roy Cooper, were forced to relent in submission to the roar of reopening support. A compromise bill was passed unanimously, after weeks and months of partisan acrimony.

As if to demonstrate just how out of touch and radical they truly are, the Far Left leaders of the N.C. Association of Educators (NCAE) responded by blasting the bipartisan deal acknowledging the risk reality, and doubled down on their opposition to reopening in deference to delusion.

And radical politics, of course. True to form, the statement from Tamika Walker Kelly leans on the reliable demand for more funding and pay, falsely crowing about state funding cuts. Then lambaste the return to school deal as some sort of wanton death trap that lawmakers (on both sides of the aisle) are throwing teachers and kids into.

From the NCAE statement:

“NCAE continues to stress the need for 6 feet of social distancing as recommended by the CDC in areas of high community spread to protect students and educators. This agreement between the governor and leaders in the state legislature will needlessly encourage school boards to push students, educators, and staff into school buildings that do not comply with CDC guidance during a pandemic, which has already claimed the lives of 11,000 North Carolinians.

“It is deeply disturbing that the governor and legislative leaders failed to acknowledge the work that educators have been doing to keep students engaged and learning during the worst pandemic in a century while effectively absolving themselves of any further responsibility for the health and safety of our public schools and those who learn and work in them. […]”

Six feet of distancing means many schools do not open; they cannot actually accommodate a full return with such restrictions. It is what they call, ‘A Deal Breaker.’

The backlash from superintendents against Governor Cooper when he ‘encouraged’ them to open, while failing to remove such distancing impediments, is part of the reason he and Democrats were forced to back down.

As Cooper feigned weeks ago in his over-hyped, not-quite-a-reopening-announcement announcement, the studies are absolutely clear that full returns to school with mild mitigation efforts is overwhelmingly safe relative to the general population and for ALL involved.

It’s the right thing to do. Yet, the NCAE — an association of educators — refuses to abandon it’s obstinate opposition to educating children in school.

It’s not news to anyone that this stems from the wannabe union’s actual mission of forcing a Far Left, Woke agenda, merely cloaked in the guise of education.
