RALEIGH – “A cancer is an uncontrolled multiplication of cells; the population explosion is an uncontrolled multiplication of people…We must shift our efforts from treatment of the symptoms to the cutting out of the cancer. The operation will demand many apparently brutal and heartless decisions.”
That was written by Standford Professor Paul Ehrlich in his 1968 book titled, The Population Bomb. Ehrlich’s Malthusian prediction of an overpopulated planet raped of its resources would lead to a mass die off did not pan out. Nonetheless, he, along with exuberant environmentalists Senator Gaylord Nelson (D-WI), were two central figures behind establishing Earth Day. Nelson was one of those liberals that, in the 60s and 70s, has a habit of defending the good intentions of communism.
To these two, it was the exploitation of the Earth by capitalists and industrial endeavors to produce better qualities of life and bigger, deeper consumer markets, that were to blame for harming Earth. Naturally, then, such exploitation of and disregard for the environment must be mitigated by government policies that happen to coincide more with collectivist systems of control, versus capitalist systems of productive achievement and private property rights.
Earth Day is honored by every year on April 22.
So it makes sense that the environmentalist movement, with Earth Day as their biggest ‘holiday,’ for the most part subscribes to the politics of the Left. Big government and sweeping laws to limit and punish polluters; restrictions on private property and industry; and, a general intrusion by government into every part of our lives that can be construed as affecting the environment.
Earth Day is as much about bigger, more intrusive, more powerful government as it is about clean air and water. Perhaps more so.
What makes a lot less sense, then, is why the N.C. Republican Party — an organization ostensibly committed to the protection of God-given rights, capitalism, private property, and limited, constitutional government with low taxes — is signaling their wokeness with a nod to Earth Day.
Happy #EarthDay! 50 years ago today, this holiday was created to bring awareness to environmental issues. Today, we celebrate clean air, land, water, and our beautiful Earth. pic.twitter.com/LVhtwnabmE

This is a day leveraged by the purveyors of the Green New Deal, of Marxism, and literally the Communist Party of USA to advance their agenda. Why is the NCGOP lending credit to environmentalists on the Left (for the positive results brought on by the cleansing innovations of free markets), and whitewashing the movement’s antithetical political philosophy in the process?
