RALEIGH – During the last year, what with Pandemic Panic and BLM/Antifa Riots, and the advancing Woke Cultural Revolution, illegal immigration, border security and immigration enforcement took to the back burner in public discourse. The limited attention was understandable, considering what else was happening, but the problems presented by a porous border, lax law enforcement, and even incentivizing policies remained.

The issue has now come to a head again, in an exaggerated way, thanks to the Left’s and President Joe Biden’s explicit signals that sneaking across the border may very well earn you citizenship, as long as you get here in time.

But while we notice the surge (sorry AOC) at the border, many illegal immigrants have already crossed into and settled into places like North Carolina. Among them, as among all populations, are miscreants that commit some of the most detestable crimes, and because the border and immigration failings result in unaccounted for illegal immigrants, such criminals exploit safe harbors among shadowed communities with a pragmatic aversion to authority.

In the month of March, in North Carolina, 17 illegal aliens were charged with 70 counts of child rape or child sexual abuse. Put another way, 17 people that should have been legally prevented from simply sneaking into our country and state unaccounted for, harmed children in this state in abhorrent ways.

It only takes one example see why everyone in any community would benefit from the consistent and resolute enforcement of immigration laws, especially when it comes to opportunities to detain and deport those illegal aliens arrested from crimes.
