RALEIGH – True to form, the Leftist N.C. Association of Educators (NCAE), which is actually an association of a minority of the teachers in the state, is holding school reopening hostage to unreasonable and overtly political demands. On the unreasonable end of the spectrum, the group says they won’t support school reopening unless all teachers and staff are vaccinated, meaning that cohort would jump the line in front of other priority groups vulnerable to the virus.
That’s the only way the group says school staff can feel safe; the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) says it’s unnecessary.
The reality is that teachers, staff, and students are not especially vulnerable to the virus, according to all available ‘science and data.’ Even the CDC, which has consistently erred more on the side of Pandemic Panic, is now telling schools that vaccination should not be a precondition for reopening schools.
And it wasn’t a vague statement. Speaking during a White House COVID briefing, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said:
“There is increasing data to suggest that schools can safely reopen and that safe reopening does not suggest that teachers need to be vaccinated. Vaccinations of teachers is not a prerequisite of reopening schools.”

The teachers unions across the country, and the wannabe teachers union here in North Carolina, will hear none of it. After all, if they simply recognize reality and return to school, they’ll give up their leverage to demand things like $15/HR minimum wages and Medicaid expansion.
That leverage is made up of students/children, to be clear. Groups like the NCAE want to condition whether or not your public school kids even get a chance at an adequate education on their demands.
That’s getting increasingly difficult for them as parents, teachers, lawmakers, and popularly sanctioned arbiters of truth like the CDC see the damage that’s being done and are now telling them to get back in the classroom in concert.
