NC Supreme Court Rejects Democrats’ Attempt to Block Implementation of Voter ID

RALEIGH – Thursday the North Carolina Supreme Court issued an order denying the Left’s latest attempt to thwart Voter ID. Last month Democrats sued to block implementation of the Voter ID law, for some contrived and malicious theory of covert racism on part of the Republicans.

The simple issue of voter’s being required to have valid photo identification has been worked into a controversial lather by the Left ever since Republican majorities first introduced the measure in 2013. Democrats were successful in finding a judge willing to validate the ‘Voter ID/Republicans are racists’ smear and the law was repealed. So Republicans, confident in majority support for this common sense election integrity measure, asked the people of North Carolina if we should amend the state constitution  to require Voter ID. They were right; a strong majority of voters supported the amendment.

However, Democrats never let it go. Eventually they found a judge to perpetuate the asinine argument that gerrymandering abuses make the legislature illegitimate, thus they’re vote to put voter ID on the ballot is invalid and the amendment null and void.

So the N.C. Supreme Court’s order Thursday represents a rare judicial break for Republicans besieged by Sue Till Blue legal action from Democrats and allies in the judiciary. Especially considering the heavy Democratic majority on the court, which features its own Social Justice…Justice, the denial order should tell us something about the ridiculousness of the Left’s requested injunction.

All over asking people for a simple ID to participate in elections. Representative David Lewis, Chairman of the House Elections Committee, touted the Thursday’s order as a victory for common sense in a post on Facebook.

Big victory for North Carolinians today, as the N.C. Supreme Court rejected the #SueTillBlue Democrats’ attempt to block implementation of Voter ID.

This is a huge victory for the security and freedom of our elections! We will keep fighting to ensure that your voice is heard, and that your vote is protected.”

Perhaps common sense will win out on this issue after all these years of the Left’s hysteria and race card tactics. Don’t hold your breath, though. At the very least, take this as this week’s good news.
