NC State Students Launch Petition to End Contract with Raleigh PD

RALEIGH – A coalition of nine black student organizations at North Carolina State University have launched a petition to end the university’s relationship with the Raleigh Police Department. The petition, which gained thousands of signatures within a couple days, issues a dozen demands of the school to achieve sufficient wokeness.

“[…] Brianna Harvey and Jalen Rose represent two of the nine organizations behind the petition.

Harvey is vice president of the school’s NAACP chapter while Rose is a staff writer with the Nubian Message, N.C. State’s black student newspaper.

There are 12 demands including:

• • demanding that the university cuts its current ties with the Raleigh Police Department and create a new detailed protocol for when to contract with the RPD to participate in campus activities. 
  • Asking university police to not contract with any RPD officers with excessive force records
  • Annual cultural, diversity and de-escalation training for campus police
  • A public database for students to report excessive force and racial discrimination carried out by police
  • The creation of mental health and sexual assault task forces among others

“I know especially for students like me who have had interactions with police on campus that haven’t always necessarily been positive, it would definitely help us feel better if some of these situations were resolved. We knew this was the time to make these demands to actually see change come out of it,” said Harvey. […]”

Of course, with the social pressure cooker set up as it is these days, NC State’s chancellor is eager to meet with the students in an effort to, at least, attempt to appease the mostly ridiculous ‘demands.’ Any hint at framing the student demands as patently absurd for a university nestled right-smack-dab one of the state’s major metropolitan areas, virtually indistinguishable from the Raleigh itself, would immediately earn the chancellor a ‘White Supremacist’ label and a new demand for his resignation. A mob at his door with pitchforks would not be inconsistent with recent events.

Nope; Chancellor Randy Woodson send the coalition an email, thanking them.

“Thank you for clearly expressing your demands. I hope we can work together to improve the state of policing at N.C. State”

Now, you’d be excused for being unaware of specific, racially-biased policing problems at NC State. That’s because any allusion to such, by these social justice student groups, is an illusion.

It’s not the first time, however, that woke student groups have targeted law enforcement on campus. The student body president, herself a bona fide social justice student, led a charge demanding the university ban ICE from campus because it made illegal immigrant student feel insecure.

Though that was before 2020. Now the demands are way more brazen, and stupid. The demand for ending the relationship with Raleigh PD coincidentally comes just days after they were called upon called from campus to respond to a SHOOTING MURDER ON CAMPUS.

If murders were happening on the campus of the school your son or daughter attended, where the campus is surrounded by a big city and a million people, would you want the school to cancel it’s relationship with the local police department?

The parents, alumni, donors, and trustees — especially the majority of students who do not subscribe to the latest social justice dogma  — are likely playing close attention to how the school handles radical demands from radical groups.
