RALEIGH – It is simple logic: If you can’t account for who is coming into the country, there is no way to keep out criminals. If immigration laws are not enforced effectively, illegal aliens are not removed before (or even after) some of them commit heinous crimes. Crimes such as raping or sexually assaulting a child.
Unfortunately, such atrocities are committed right here in the Old North State by people who, if laws were enforced or borders secured, never would have been here in the first place. In the month of May, according to the latest NCFIRE report, at least 29 illegal aliens committed 43 separate acts of child rape or child sexual assault.
From NCFIRE president James Johnson:
“[…] With all of the news about illegal aliens invading the southern border, you would think our Legislators at the NCGA would be feverishly passing laws to protect NC’s children from this onslaught, HOWEVER… you would be wrong!
They have done absolutely NOTHING, even though there is a really good bill that made crossover in the NCGA, that would go a long way towards reducing this scourge. […]”
Johnson highlights specific pieces of legislation that lawmakers could be moving forward if they were serious about combating illegal immigration by enforcing the laws on the books and holding law enforcement organizations accountable when they fail to do so.
From the May report:
HB370– Require Sheriff Cooperation with ICE: This bill would require a background check of the citizenship status of any person charged with a felony criminal offense or an impaired driving offense, who is confined for any period in a county jail, local confinement facility, district confinement facility, or satellite jail/work release unit.
Unfortunately this bill sits in the Rules and Operations of the Senate Committee, (even though it has already passed the House AND 2 separate readings in the Senate).
All it needs is ONE MORE VOTE in the Senate.
NCFIRE is calling on EVERYONE who gets this email, to contact the Chairman and the Vice Chairman of this Senate committee and demand they bring this bill up for its’ final vote.
SENATOR BILL RABON- Chairman

SENATOR HARRY BROWN- Vice Chairman

Is it at all unreasonable to require citizenship status checks of those committing felonies? Would sheriffs, especially those of the most populous counties in the state, not further ensure the safety of their communities by doing everything they can to remove illegal aliens committing felonies or driving drunk on our roads?
It is such a no-brainer that a refusal to give this bill an opportunity to advance and become law raises serious questions about the priorities of lawmakers who stand in the way of such common sense legislation.
