LL1885: Wake County Schools Employee Warns Teachers to Not ‘Culturally Appropriate’ Thanskgiving Activities Students

WAKE COUNTY – It’s the week of Thanksgiving and school children around the country will undoubtedly be participating in all sorts of activities to learn about the holiday (probably not the REAL story behind Thanksgiving, mind you). They’ll make it fun for the kids by organizing activities, making costumes, and putting a lot of construction paper and glue to use.

If only it could be that simple. However, these days the Left is running rampant, especially within the ‘woke’ school systems, and looking to spoil any Americana with their postmodernist garbage. According to a Wake County Public Schools employee, from their ‘Office of Equity Affairs,’ is warning teachers not to let their students dress up as Indians because it’s ‘cultural appropriation.’

This doesn’t sit well with A.P. Dillon over at LadyLiberty1885, nor should it with parents of students in this county.

“This is what making $85,000 a year allows you to do in Wake County Public Schools:

Teachers! Repeat after me:
Mascareñaz is a professional Social Justice Warrior, not a teacher.
Teaching Tolerance is a leftist social justice indoctrination organization.
Southern Poverty Law Center is a hate group.
#VirtueSignalingIsNotEducation

In April of this year, I warned parents with students in Wake County Public Schools about the hiring of  Lauryn Mascareñaz.  She had previously worked for the Southern Poverty Law Center’s “Teaching Tolerance” indoctrination group.

Wake County hired Mascareñaz for the Office of Equity Affairs. To date, I can see no purpose for or value of this office whatsoever.

It’s a mystery why Wake County taxpayers are ponying up over $507,000 a year for an ‘Equity Office’ staffed by only three people.  Mascareñaz is making $85,000.”

Let’s forget the social justice nonsense for a moment; Over half a million dollars a year on an Office of Equity Affairs?! This is from a county that was a huge source of activism during the teacher marches on the State Capitol agitating for higher pay and more resources for students. Do you think they could put that Equity Affairs money to better use?

Moreover, Wake County has been coming to taxpayers every election cycle begging for votes to pass bonds because the the billion dollar operating budget they have isn’t enough for them to live within their means. But they pay the ‘Directory of Equity’ to patronize teachers, students, and parents with social justice indoctrination.

Parents of students in Wake County Schools should demand that their children get to fully participate in festivities full of headdresses, and big ol’ buckles on their shoes, just to push back against this social justice drivel. More importantly, parents should make sure their children (and family, and friends) know what the REAL story of Thanksgiving entails.

Finally, Wake County taxpayers should demand their money not be wasted on on social justice indoctrination projects like the Office of Equity Affairs.
