WASHINGTON, D.C. – While some GOP members of the Senate are actively participating in the relentless witch hunt against Donald Trump, or at least content to let it happen, a select few are at least standing up to call this ‘trial’ what it is — a sham.
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) said on Twitter that he plans to force a vote on whether or not the Senate can hold a trial of a private citizen. After all, the president is the target of an impeachment trial, and Trump is no longer president.
I object to this unconstitutional sham of an “impeachment” trial and I will force a vote on whether the Senate can hold a trial of a private citizen.

Republicans should reject any process that involves a partisan Democrat in the chair instead of the Chief Justice.

If Chief Justice Roberts can’t be bothered to come over for the so-called impeachment, makes you wonder if this exercise is constitutional at all.

Paul is also one of the lone voices of of reason on the election integrity/fraud question, refusing to back the Left’s narrative of smearing 2020 election skeptics as crackpots in a fiery interview with George Stephanopoulos.
When it comes to the actual impeachment charge of inciting an insurrection, Paul scoffs at the patently absurd notion that President Trump’s words to ‘peacefully march to the Capitol’ were responsible for the regretful things perpetrated by individuals there by on January 6, 2021.
That’s coming from one of the Republicans literally targeted in a surprise attack shooting spree by a crazed Bernie Sanders supporter. Individuals are responsible for their own actions.
As the shame in the Senate proceeds, Paul rightfully force the Senators to acknowledge (and hopefully stop) just what they’re doing. You can catch his floor speech this afternoon here.
