‘It’s Time’: NC House Member Pleads for Cooper to Let People Individual Freedom Back

RALEIGH – The administration of Governor Roy Cooper is teasing a benevolent ‘full return’ to summer as a carrot on a stick to entice more people to get vaccinated. While Cooper clings to his pandemic powers, it doesn’t take a lot of observation to sense that people aren’t buying the fear campaign any longer.

N.C. House Representative David Willis (R-Union) sees it, too, and wants the governor to recognize that ‘it’s time’ in the following post on Facebook:

“It’s time Governor. We have been patient. We have followed the guidelines. We are well beyond actual science at this point and have ventured too far into political science. Over 50% of adults in NC have at least 1 vaccine shot and over 80% of adults 65+. Add that to the roughly 1M people who have had Covid and we are beyond the 60% mark you claim to be targeting. It’s time to get rid of the toolkit and let people have back their individual freedom.”

Cooper and Public Health Czar Mandy Cohen have, as with so much else over the last year, chosen to enforce an arbitrary threshold for allowing us, citizens of North Carolina, to be granted our freedoms back. As if those freedoms are the government’s to grant, let alone a single politician.

Vaccination numbers overall are strong, as Rep. Willis points out, but they’re falling short of Cooper’s goalposts. Naturally then, the administration is leveraging our liberties to coax more people into getting the jab; promoting social pressure campaigns; pushing COVID vaccines on invulnerable children; and, resisting all calls to recognize the reality we face lest it means giving up power over are lives.

Fortunately, more and more people are living reality, especially as COVID numbers plummet. Hopefully this summer will make it clear that the people choose to exercise their freedoms as they see fit, seeing Cooper’s authorities to dictate their summer plans for what it really is: non-existent.
