WASHINGTON, D.C. – Well, they’ve done it. After years of seething hatred and bending over backwards to justify removing a president they don’t like, the Democrats in the U.S. House have impeached President Donald Trump. They never quite found the justification, pushed uncontrollably toward this vote by sheer desperate momentum.
Elected officials from around North Carolina reacted to the “historic” Wednesday evening vote.
Today will be remembered as the day your House Democrat majority voted to impeach President @realDonaldTrump for a crime they couldn’t find and a case they couldn’t prove.
You won’t forget. And neither will we.

“When all is said & done, when the history of this impeachment is written, it will be said my Democrat friends couldn’t bring themselves to work w/ @realDonaldTrump so they consoled themselves instead by silencing the will of those who did:the American people.” – @RepMarkMeadows pic.twitter.com/29O3bR8pkQ

I just delivered a speech on the House floor voicing my disappointment in the unprecedented, baseless and partisan impeachment of President Donald Trump.

The process, the timing, and the partisanship are all deplorable.
But the heart of the matter is that there is no MERIT in the case against @realdonaldtrump.

Congress just impeached an American president on charges from a whistleblower we’ve never seen.

Congratulations Speaker Pelosi. You did it.
Now turn around and look at the scorched Earth you left behind. It will never have been worth it. pic.twitter.com/75J018HovQ

I’m voting against impeaching President @realDonaldTrump today for a very simple reason: House Democrats didn’t prove their case.
They didn’t even come close. pic.twitter.com/vAaYT7xDca

But, of course, there were the select Democrats cheering the news. There will be more empty, misguided references to the Constitution and our Founding Fathers from Democrats during this impeachment process than the entire rest of their political tenures.
Yesterday, I voted in favor of both articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump. In doing so, I fulfilled my oath of office to defend the constitution of the United States. https://t.co/PiIvkrAu8O

Just to clarify, President Trump was not charged with, nor impeached based upon ANY CRIME whatsoever. No one is above the law, says Congressman Butterffield, but he and the Democrats seem to think following it is beneath them.
Trump was impeached purely for partisan reasons, on zero evidence of wrongdoing, and in a way that imperils the stability of our counterbalanced federal system from here on out.
Now the impeachment goes to the Senate, where Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) will set the course for a trial, or mere votes on acquittal. The action kicked off Thursday with speeches on the Senate Floor frm McConnell and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY). With different directors, it will be a different show, but it will remain a shame.
