Harris appointed to US House Ag Committee

Freshman Congressman Mark Harris, R-NC08, has been appointed to sit on the US House of Representatives Agriculture Committee in the 119th Congress.  Harris was elected to represent the 8th Congressional District, running after former Republican Congressman Dan Bishop stepped down to run for Attorney General in the 2024 election.

“I’m pleased to have Mark Harris from North Carolina’s Eighth District. Mark’s a family man, which bodes well for his district, did you know, nearly 95% of the farms in Mark’s district are family farms?  Those farms produce a wide range of goods, from tobacco to eggs and everything in between. Mark, I’m excited to have you on this Committee.”

Chairman Rep. Glenn Thompson, R-PA15.

Harris will also serve on the Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities, Risk Management, and Credit; the Subcommittee on Nutrition and Foreign Agriculture; and, the Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy and Poultry.

“Our nation runs on agriculture, and nowhere is that more true than North Carolina’s 8th district! Along with other North Carolinians, our farmers have suffered for years under burdensome federal regulations — it’s time to cut the red tape,” Harris told the Carolina Journal. “Congress must be fiscally responsible in its efforts to support the agriculture industry by passing a five-year farm bill authorization and meaningful SNAP reform alongside other priorities.  I look forward to working alongside Chairman GT Thompson and the Committee to enact President Trump’s agenda to help America’s farmers.”

Other congressional lawmakers representing North Carolina on the House Agricultural Committee include US Rep. David Rouzer, R-NC07, US Rep. Don Davis, D-NC01, and US Rep. Alma Adams, D-NC12.

Rouzer has been appointed vice chair of the Subcommittee on Farm Commodities, Risk Management, and Credit; Davis will also sit as a member. In addition, Rouzer will serve on the Subcommittee on Forestry and Horticulture and the Subcommittee on Commodity Markets, Digital Assets, and Rural Development. Davis will serve on the Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry and the Subcommittee on Commodity Markets, Digital Assets, and Rural Development. Adams will serve on the Subcommittee on Conservation, Research, and Biotechnology and the Subcommittee on Nutrition and Foreign Agriculture.

“Today, the House Agriculture Committee officially organized for the 119th Congress, and is now ready to tackle the many challenges facing America’s farmers, ranchers, and rural communities,” Thompson said in a statement. “From market volatility to regulatory burdens, our shared priorities include ensuring a strong and prosperous future for American agriculture and the communities they feed. Together, we look forward to bringing about meaningful policy, including a five-year farm bill.”
