From Defying Prohibition to Issuing Their Own, NASCAR Bans Confederate Flag

Life is seems to be imitating art these days, particularly those artistic pieces of literature that describe varying versions of either Utopia or dystopia. NASCAR — the sport that emanated from the illegal distilling and smuggling of alcohol in cars fast enough to out run police during the era of prohibition, a staple of the South and North Carolina in particular — is now issuing its own prohibition. Wednesday NASCAR announced they would prohibit the flying or display of the Confederate flag at its venues, in deference to the woke push against mythical systemic racism as charged by the Far Left and Black Lives Matter.

“The presence of the Confederate flag at NASCAR events runs contrary to our commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all fans, our competitors and our industry. Bringing people together around a love for racing and the community that it creates is what makes our fans and sport special. The display of the Confederate flag will be prohibited from all NASCAR events and properties.”

In just a few sentences NASCAR reinforces the smear that the Confederate flag is a purely racist token, representing nothing but a history of slavery and remnant racism. They completely abandon the truth that, while some simple fools fly the Confederate flag to push reprehensible, morally bankrupt ideas, the vast majority view it as a simple nod to heritage, Southern culture, and a general sense of rebelliousness. The corporate world is falling all over itself to signal whatever woke virtues the mob has demanded adherence to, and that means accepting collective guilt for ancestors sins while erasing or snuffing out any allusions to a time or place that wasn’t quite so woke.

The social justice mob has focused on the Confederate flag for years, with the Leftists at ESPN cheering that the flag is “finally gone.” One driver in the NASCAR Truck Series, though, isn’t sticking around for the political correctness.

“[…] Ray Ciccarelli, a NASCAR Truck Series driver, announced on social media Wednesday that he plans to quit the sport shortly after the release of new guidelines that include a ban on Confederate flags at races.

Ciccarelli, 50, took to Facebook to announce that it has been a “fun ride and dream come true” to race, but he is concerned about NASCAR’s direction and will stop racing after 2020.

“I don’t believe in kneeling during Anthem nor taken ppl right to fly what ever flag they love,” he posted. “I could care less about the Confederate Flag, but there are ppl that do and it doesn’t make them a racist all you are doing is (expletive) one group to cater to another and i ain’t spend the money we are to participate in any political BS!! So everything is for SALE!!” […]”

‘Political BS’ is exactly what this is. Fear over losing sponsors and becoming targets of radical woke malcontents has NASCAR toeing the line drawn by those that use racism labels as a cudgel with which to beat independent thinkers into submission.

Now, being that NASCAR the corporation is quite distinct from NASCAR fans, who tend to have a ‘Don’t Tread On Me’ attitude, one wonders just how this politically correct prohibition is going to play out.
