Forest to Kick Off 2020 Campaign in August

RALEIGH – With a core staff now in place, the Dan Forest for Governor campaign announced Tuesday that it will be officially launching the 2020 bid for the governor’s mansion on August 17. We’ll forgive you for thinking the campaign was already well underway, but the last few months the Forest campaign has merely been an ‘Exploratory Committee.’ Later this summer, Forest will make official what nearly everyone expected for the better part of his term as lieutenant governor.

Forest may not be the first to ‘officially’ jump into the Republican race for governor, though. State House Rep. Holly Grange (R-New Hanover) is rumored to be launching her campaign for governor as early as next week.

Waiting on the other side of the expected Republican primary will be incumbent Democrat Roy Cooper. The Cooper reelection campaign launched in New York City, of all places, and will inevitably feature the Left’s campaign tactics of smearing Republican opponents as racists, bigots, and homophobes. Left-leaning media started that push against the conservative Forest long ago. Hopefully, August 17 will mark the day they start pushing back.
