Forest Sounds the Alarm on Cooper Administration’s Sly Push for More Lockdowns

RALEIGH – Governor Roy Cooper certainly doesn’t want to look as if he’s plunging the citizens of his state back into lockdown, so he had his Health Czar push big counties to do it for him, writing a letter urging stricter lockdowns, more fines for non-compliance, and more power to shut down ‘imminent hazard’ businesses.

Well, Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest, Republican 2020 candidate for governor, isn’t going to let Cooper skate by and avoid blame for quietly attempting to re-institute economy-killing lockdowns.

Here’s the press release from the Office of Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest:

“Lt. Governor Forest’s comments on Gov. Cooper trying to shutdown North Carolina without telling the public:
Take a look at this memo just sent to North Carolina municipalities by DHHS Secretary Mandy Cohen. She encourages local governments to:
· Impose fines on people who decline to wear a mask.
· Impose fines on businesses that do not enforce the mask mandate.
· Further restrict restaurants.
· Further restrict mass gatherings.
· Cut off alcohol sales before 11 p.m.
· Close bars and nightclubs.
To put it bluntly: Governor Cooper is attempting to use local governments to punish business and individuals doing what they can to survive. He has repeatedly said he has full authority over his COVID shutdown, which means he also gets 100% of the responsibility. Passing the buck to local businesses and municipalities is the antithesis of leadership.”
The ‘Phase 3’ of Cooper’s reopening lockdown decree expires on Friday. A press conference with King Cooper and Health Czar Mandy Cohen is scheduled for Thursday afternoon. Do you think they’ll actually let us return to our free lives?
Do you think they’ll allow press to even ask tough questions about this thinly veiled attempt to throw much of the state back into lockdown just days before the election?
