RALEIGH – With as little evidence that masks work to slow the transmission of respiratory viruses like the Wuhan Lab Virus as there is, the Pandemic Panic/Pro-Masking crowd tends to grab on to anything they can find to justify you and your kids wearing face diapers.
This week, a group of researchers said that mask wearing was effective in preventing the transmission of COVID-19 in school. The media has gobbled up the report to reinforce the narrative that masks are effective and necessary, thirsty for validation as the pro-mask factions had nothing to stand on but peer pressure and fear mongering.
“A new report shows North Carolina schools were highly successful in preventing the transmission of COVID-19 at schools.
Dr. Danny Benjamin and Dr. Kanecia Obie Zimmerman, co-chairs of the Duke-led ABC Science Collaborative, discussed their findings virtually Wednesday.
The report showed wearing a mask was effective in preventing transmission in schools, even without physical distancing.
Dr. Benjamin made it clear the collaborative doesn’t recommend policy, such as around mask wearing, but that they’re focused on presenting findings and research. […]”
So let’s get this straight. The one group that, far and away above every other group, that we have already established is the least at risk of getting infected or transmitting COVID-19; that group is also not getting infected or transmitting the virus when “wearing a mask” at school?
In other news, research finds that birth control is effective in preventing pregnancy in men.
All kidding aside, the real insight here may be that the study upends social distancing requirements. The researchers found that social distancing — you know, that arbitrary rule that caused schools and businesses to close for months on end — didn’t really make a difference.
More:
“[…] Dr. Zimmerman said those in schools who came into contact with a person testing positive for COVID-19 had to quarantine for a substantial period of time. That may not be necessary.
“That means collectively in North Carolina we have more than 40,000 people who had to quarantine during the 10-12 weeks,” Dr. Zimmerman said, adding that hundreds of thousands of school days have been missed because of quarantine.
“Yet the benefit that we’re seeing is nil,” Dr. Zimmerman said. “It is very minimal transmission. Therefore the risk to go to enhanced community spread really is not there so we have these missed school days without the benefit of actually controlling spread. This is something that I think we should think very careful about as we move forward.” […]”
‘The benefit is nil,’ when it comes to social distancing? Well, how about that?
Perhaps it’s because KIDS ARE AT THE LOWEST VERY LOW RISK OF CATCHING A BAD CASE AND SPREADING COVID IN THE FIRST PLACE. That mean whether they social distance….or wear a mask…or not.
The report, and associated media hype, comes after legislation was filed to allow local school districts the options of dropping mask mandates for students. The statewide mask mandate was largely dropped, except for certain settings, weeks ago.
Many counties are intent upon doing just that, citing one of the most well-documented, corroborated, reiterated, agreed upon facts about the COVID-19 disease, that KIDS ARE AT VERY LOW RISK OF SUFFERING FROM OR TRANSMITTING THE DISEASE. That fact is made more glaring by another well understood truth; hindering kids education with closures, social distancing rules, and masking is detrimental to their learning and mental health.
