NEW BERN – While the 9th District is inundated with outside money from the national Left looking to make a special election steal, the 3rd District will be playing host to special guest Donald Trump Jr, as he travels to New Bern to campaign on behalf of Republican primary winner Dr. Greg Murphy.
Murphy, who’s endeared himself to the House Freedom Caucus, faces former Greenville mayor Allen Thomas. The Third District is solidly Republican, yet nothing should be taken for granted as the Democratic machine will not hesitate to target a low-turnout special election for a possible pick up.
And Thomas fits the mold that works best with that Democratic machine: former director of a state-funded boondoggle from which $1 million+ was ‘unaccounted for’ the year he was there, and already joining the chorus on the Left pushing gun control. A plea to vote for more gun control and a tighter grip for Nancy Pelosi doesn’t seem like winning strategy in eastern North Carolina.
The visit from Don Jr supporting North Carolina Republicans is probably just a warm up for the Trump family. In addition to daughter-in-law Lara’s Carolina connections, the Old North State will again be pivotal in 2020. Trump family appearances will likewise pick up in earnest, both for reelection and for boosting Republican wins in a supportive state.
Early voting for the special elections starts Wednesday, August 21.
