BRUNSWICK COUNTY – A Democrat hoping to unseat an incumbent Republican House member in 2020 is reminding us that many on the Left have a dreadful lack of scruples when it comes to political attacks. James Dawkins, a self-described ‘Progressive Democrat,’ asserted on Twitter that incumbent Rep. Frank Iler (R-Brunswick) is “personally responsible” for the deaths of 15,000 people.
The reason Dawkins thinks Iler is a mass murderer? Because Iler is a Republican opposed to Medicaid expansion.
My GOP opponent is personally responsible for these deaths in NC.

Adding a cherry on top, Dawkins says that Iler was willing to indirectly kill thousands of people merely to oppose former President Barack Obama, probably believing opposition to Obama is purely motivated by racism.
A little extreme, no? Not necessarily for the increasingly radical Leftists in the Democratic Party. After all, the Left has been pushing this absurdity that not expanding government healthcare entitlements leads directly to people dying for years. Needless to say, such positions are removed entirely from reality. It shouldn’t even require a response, which risks giving that position even an iota of legitimacy.
Totally ‘woke’ progressives like Dawkins drink this Kool-Aid one cup after another, until they accuse an individual Republican of being personally responsible for letting thousands of people die. Dawkins bases his tweet on an article that makes the demonstrably false ‘15,000 deaths’ claim.
This is what the 2020 elections in North Carolina are going to boil down to, it seems. Currently, we have a Democratic governor that refuses to sign a budget that doesn’t include Medicaid expansion and is leveraging his bully pulpit to cast Republicans as the bullies that don’t like poor people. Without being as direct as Dawkins, Roy Cooper is pushing the exact same narrative.
In the face of such ludicrous rhetoric from Democrats and their friends in the media, it’s vitally important that Republicans reinforce their principles (in talk AND action) so as to better guard against any temptation to appease such inane factions for fear of looking bad in the press. That means spiking ‘Carolina Cares’ and actually taking legislative action to remove barriers to healthcare access and alleviate price inflation, e.g. repealing Certificate of Need laws and doing what they can to relax insurance coverage mandates.
These ‘Republicans are letting people die!’ claims are only just getting started. Democrats have nothing else and it shows.
