COVER UP: After NC Dems Deny Signing ‘Defund Police’ Pledge, NC House Speaker Shares Screenshots Proving They Were Lying While Secretly Editing Documents

DEFUND THE POLICE painted on street in Asheville, NC

RALEIGH – A call to Defund the Police is en vogue on the Left, and that includes Democrat politicians in North Carolina. Republican Speaker of the N.C. House, Tim Moore (R-Cleveland), came out recently to blast North Carolina Democrats for signing a Defund the Police Pledge.

The Democrats said Speaker Moore was lying; misrepresenting the pledge to make it sound more extreme than it was. Lucky for us, though, the internet is forever, and Speaker Moore was thoughtful enough to keep screenshots that prove these Democrats were the ones lying while the secretly edited the documents to change what they said.

From Speaker Tim Moore:

A pledge to defund law enforcement taken by dozens of House Democrats and candidates was secretly edited as news of the pledge broke in North Carolina, causing press outlets to unknowingly report the edited pledge as the original content.

Archived screenshots of the original pledge, compared to the current version, prove the pledge was quickly edited as news of its contents broke.

A new sentence was immediately added saying “Signing the America’s Goals pledge is not an endorsement of any specific bill,” so that news outlets unknowingly reported that added sentence as part of the original pledge.

Model bills on the pledge website called for “a reassessment of police funding and a reallocation of funding.”

The change to the pledge was not mentioned by House Democrats or the group proposing it, despite their persistent denials it was “a lie” that the pledge would defund law enforcement.

Revelations that N.C. House Democrats’ pledge to defund law enforcement was immediately edited to try to distinguish model policy from the radical agenda provides further evidence that the caucus did commit to reallocating police budgets.

If House Democrats have supposedly not pledged to defund the police, why was it necessary to immediately change the website when news broke?” Speaker Moore said.

“This appears to be a cover-up of House Democrats’ true intentions to the voters of North Carolina.”

Yet even with the secret edit, the active Future Now pledge still explicitly recommends defunding law enforcement separate from its model bills – which are supposedly not part of the pledge anymore despite still being indexed directly under the pledge’s organized agenda under Section 5C.

The landing page for the pledge’s policies still calls for “Reinvesting Policing Savings” before the introduction claims “police funding…has been shown to have no connection to crime rates” and recommends communities “invest police savings.”

Model legislation on the site further provides pledge signers a draft bill to help defund law enforcement.”

Whoops.

Here’s a thought: Maybe if Democratic politicians stopped pandering to radical demands of Radical Leftists in the first place, they wouldn’t have to backtrack, lie, and manipulate the record to avoid well-deserved criticism.

We won’t hold our breath.

This is your North Carolina Democratic Party.
