Cooper Unveils Extreme Plan to Fight ‘Climate Change’, Not Extreme Enough For Some

RALEIGH – In keeping with his toeing the line drawn by the Far Left, Governor Roy Cooper unveiled last week his plan to battle purported man-made climate change which would put a stranglehold on North Carolina industry to reduce emissions by 40 percent by 2025 and obtain ‘carbon neutrality’ by 2050.

These are the goals for the plan:

  • Reduce electric power sector greenhouse gas emissions by 70% below 2005 levels by 2030 and attain carbon neutrality by 2050.
  • Foster long-term energy affordability and price stability for North Carolina’s residents and businesses by modernizing regulatory and planning processes.
  • Accelerate clean energy innovation, development, and deployment to create economic
opportunities for both rural and urban areas of the state

While just a few sentences, implementing such policies would entails billions of dollars in tax giveaways to clean energy cronies and billions more in costs for North Carolina businesses and consumers. it’s a pipe dream the pursuit of which entails an expansion of government control over industry and economy in direct contravention to the principles of private property and economic liberty that this nation was founded upon.

Still, it’s not quite crazy enough for the the most anxious of Chicken Littles among the Left.

From WRAL:

“[…] While the Southern Environmental Law Center, the League of Conservation Voters and other environmental advocates praised the plan, some protesters called it a “greenwash” that doesn’t go far enough.

While Cooper spoke with members of the council at the beginning of Friday’s meeting at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, protestors interrupted him, shouting “act, act, act” and holding up signs accusing him of “climate hypocrisy.”

About a dozen people had to be escorted out of the museum by police.

Amanda Robertson, a climate activist who helped organize the protest, said the governor needs to revoke state permits for the planned Atlantic Coast Pipeline, which is on hold because of legal challenges but is eventually expected to move fracked natural gas from West Virginia to southeastern North Carolina. […]”

Ah, the Atlantic Coast Pipeline; a corruption scandal that seems to have been successfully whitewashed by Cooper’s myriad media protectors, but we digress.

When it comes to whackos on the Left, the environmentalists are a standard bearer. They won’t be happy until all private businesses are completely hampered by a Green New Deal that sells ‘the future’ while it sends us back to the stone age.

Despite the extreme environmental alarmists’ dissatisfaction with the plan, the damage Cooper’s climate plan would have on the North Carolina economy, and the rights of North Carolinians, overall is reason enough to see to it that Cooper is moving out of the mansion on Blount Street in January 2021.
