RALEIGH – A poll update from CNBC/Change Research reveals that Governor Roy Cooper is sinking fast in the eyes of likely voters. Since July, when Cooper’s unilateral decrees to keep kids from going to school after months of fomenting Pandemic Panic, the governor has watch his approval go lower and lower, while those that disapprove (and strongly) grow and grow. The trend seems to be accelerating in recent weeks.
This is not a trend you want to see if you’re an incumbent running for reelection (progression from previous iterations of poll as noted by Randy Brechbiel):
Aug. 21-23: 56% approve, 44% disapprove
Sept. 4-6: 52% approve, 48% disapprove
Sept. 18-20: 49% approve, 51% disapprove
Moreover, the breakdown of approval/strong approval vs disapproval/strong disapproval shows that his opposition is a lot more animated than his supporters.
Significantly more likely voters ‘strongly disapprove of Cooper (41), than strongly approve of him (33).
Now, consider these sinking numbers within the context of Governor Roy Cooper relenting on some lockdown restrictions and allowing schools to open full time. Would it be a stretch to presume Cooper is loosening his tyrannical grip because he sees these polling trends? We know it’s not the ‘science data’ he always refers to, because that would mean we reopened months ago, in full.
Hopefully voters give Cooper a final disapproval judgement in November.
